The New Lanark Organic Wool Spinners

FAQ

Here we aim to answer some of your most common questions.

Colours - Are the colours shown accurate?

We do our best to ensure that the images on this website are accurate reproductions of our organic yarns. The colours of our organic yarns shown are for guidance only as the settings of your monitor (brightness, contrast, colour settings etc) may influence the way the images appear on screen.

Washing - How can I wash my knitting?

Pure new organic wool should be washed gently by hand in pleasantly warm water. It should be rinsed in water of a similar temperature and gently squeezed dry. Hot water, significant changes in water temperature, rough handling and leaving to stand in water will make pure wool fabric felt. Machine-washing can also cause shrinkage, however a ‘hand rinse’ or ‘short spin’ cycle in the washing machine may well be successful for pure woollens. If in doubt it is best to test a sample of knitting first.

Hand knitting tension and needle size - What is the recommended tension and needle size for your Aran and Double Knitting yarns?

Aran - 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) on a 5 mm needle (UK size).

Double Knitting - 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) on a 4 mm needle (UK Size).

We always recommend that you do a sample first to check your tension, as all hand knitters have a different tension. Remember, knitting is a learning adventure; the more you knit the better knitter you will become. Create the garments of your dreams while creating the learning experiences that make you a better knitter. We all learn by making mistakes and correcting them. So don't be discouraged when you find a mistake, think of it as a learning adventure!

Returns - If I don't like the wool can I return it?

You can return a complete order of unused wool up to 2 weeks from the delivery date. We are not able to accept part of an order back. Refunds will be made in the same form of payment originally used for purchase. Postage & Packaging charges will not be refunded. The cost of returning goods will be paid by you.

Postage and Packaging - How much will it cost?

Postage and Packaging charges are added to the cost of your order according to the weight of the goods you order and are shown when you go to the Checkout. At the Checkout you will be provided with options for postage delivery area – please select the correct postage rate from UK, Europe, or Rest of World from the dropdown menu. Usually UK orders will be sent by Royal Mail 1st class post. In all cases you will be shown the exact cost of the delivery charge before completing your transaction.

Delivery Times - When will I get my order?

We aim to process and dispatch all orders within 2 working days. During busy periods this time can increase and we will endeavour to dispatch orders as soon as possible. If the delivery address is within the UK and you have not received your order (or an email from us offering an alternative delivery schedule) within 10 working days of placing it on our website, please contact us. International orders usually take longer to arrive, please allow up to 28 days for delivery to addresses out with the UK. Orders are sent first class for UK orders and by airmail for overseas orders.

'Out Of Stock' - When will it be back in stock for me to order?

Our small-scale batch production and traditional methods mean that from time to time stock reserves of a particular type can run low. If a particular type is not available we will put an 'Out Of Stock' message next to the item listing, and where appropriate we will suggest an alternative option, which may suit your needs. If you want a particular item that is Out Of Stock, you can email us with your request and we'll inform you when it is back in stock. Please note that we can't always provide an accurate date or timescale for when an Out Of Stock item is likely to be available due to our production limitations as a small independent producer of high quality organic yarn.
